Che qualcosa soltanto accada è futile.
Ma che qualcosa accada e uno sguardo l’accolga in sé, è tutto.

That something merely happens is futile. But that something happens and a gaze receives it within itself, is everything.

Artist’s Statement

My work is the attempt to remember a point of origin.
It is a daily effort, mute, incessant, a training of nerves, imagination, and mind.
The nature of art is religious.
In it, memory and intuition are found again. In it I find the reason for fragmentation, the reason for the succession of epochs and inventions.
I understand the desires and errors of the generations I join,
I stop looking at myself, and I remove the garment that is my name.

From critical reviews

“Sometimes acceptance is necessary. Of an art that is harsh, subtle, too true to be looked at. This is Giusi Lorelli, who challenges her audience and places it before a choice of forbidden gazes. The eye must be trained and granted the luxury of looking, of feeling no shame. Because this is perhaps what happens before a work by Giusi: the masks fall, and we find ourselves alone before an object that asks to be observed attentively.

Elena Sabattini, curator

“Giusi Lorelli portrays the suspended moment, the “zero step” that precedes the start of the battle, making palpable the emotional vibration of a situation whose victorious outcome is not a given. The viewer, too, must pause, setting aside all prior knowledge: the very language of these works is in fact “revolutionary,” often carrying meanings opposite to classical iconography.”

Claudia Andreotta, curator

[…]As in the work Real pits in false peels, false pits in real peels, ours is a condition at the edge: do we know nothing, or can a way to know perhaps be found? The true artist and the true revolutionary have a fundamental role: they tear to shreds the reality we think we know, a reality posterized in excessively garish tones. After the revolutionaries have passed, we remain defenseless, on the ground, naked, grappling with a soul finally awakened and a heart trembling as it looks hopefully toward what might come and, one hopes, will come.[…]
